Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing (6-Month Contract with potential of hire)
- New Haven County, CT
- Immediate Start
- $105,000 - $110,000 based on experience
Are you a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with plastics or injection molding experience? We’re partnering with a well-established manufacturer in New Haven County seeking a skilled engineer to support and improve high-volume production operations. This is a 6-month contract with potential for permanent hire.
What You’ll Do
In this key role, you’ll support manufacturing operations through the design, development, and continuous improvement of equipment, tooling, and mechanical systems.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and improve tooling, fixtures, and automated equipment for injection molding and assembly processes
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues on production equipment to minimize downtime
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on production efficiency, scrap reduction, and cycle time improvements
- Support process validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) and engineering change documentation
- Collaborate with Quality, Production, and Maintenance teams to improve product quality and safety
- Develop and update technical drawings using CAD (SolidWorks)
- Apply GD&T principles to part and tooling design
- Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and, if applicable, regulated manufacturing environments (such as medical devices)
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 4+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing, injection molding, or medical device production
- Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks required)
- Working knowledge of GD&T principles
- Experience with tooling design, automation, or mechanical systems in a production environment
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
