Job Description
Financial Auditor / Compliance Specialist – Hartford, CT
State of CT Government department is seeking a detail-oriented professional to examine financial records, ensure regulatory compliance, and prepare comprehensive audit findings. This role is ideal for candidates with strong accounting, auditing, and analytical skills who enjoy investigative and compliance-focused work.
Contract position, $33.70 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct or assist with examinations of financial records, documents, and regulatory compliance
- Review prior audits, financial statements, budgets, and related data to prepare for examinations
- Meet with organizational officials during on-site audits to discuss procedures and obtain information
- Examine revenue, expenditures, payroll, and grant accounting records
- Reconcile accounting records with supporting documentation (vouchers, invoices, cash receipts)
- Evaluate compliance with applicable regulations, statutes, policies, and standards
- Review internal program teams and external providers for contract, Federal, and State compliance
- Discuss audit findings with appropriate stakeholders
- Prepare detailed reports outlining results and recommendations
- Participate in hearings or conferences as needed
- Perform related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Professional accounting and auditing principles and practices
- Relevant statutes, regulations, and compliance standards
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Clear oral and written communication abilities
Ability to:
- Analyze financial records, reports, and supporting documentation
- Evaluate compliance with contracts and Federal/State regulations
- Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports
- Work independently and manage multiple priorities
